LIVE MUSIC
It’s not Oktoberfest without a brass band
King Guys Oktoberfest Brass Band travels all the way from Orlando to celebrate and set the tone for the perfect Wiesn weekend. You’ll hear a variety of traditional German drinking songs and modern songs to give everyone something fun to bop around to.
Listen to their playlist to get in the mood →

Oktoberfest music includes both traditional German brass band styles intermingled with modern classics, and all shouted at the top of your lungs. In Munich beer tents, attendees usually sing until they have no voice left to complain about their hangover with the next day.
One of the most popular songs at a traditional Oktoberfest celebration is “Ein Prosit” which involves putting your mug up in the air, and when it’s done, toast those around you saying “Oans, zwoa, drei, g'suffa!” meaning “one, two, three, drink up!”

WIENER DOG RACES
one activity you don’t want to miss!
Over the course of the weekend, there will be 3 Wiener Dog Races–1 on Friday and 2 on Saturday. After the 2:30PM race on Saturday, there will be a parade where all dachshunds are welcome to join in the fun.
-
The dogs start from a gate on a straight-line course about 100’ long. We ask that one owner be with the dog at the start and another waiting at the finish line (if you don’t have two people we have plenty of volunteers to help). It is common for the dogs to “lose focus” during the race, but this is all part of the fun!
-
Only pure bred dachshunds are allowed to compete
Your dog must be current on all vaccinations to attend the event and race
Owners must keep their dogs on a leash at all times (when not racing)
Owners must pick up after their dogs for proper disposal
Race entries will be accepted until races are full, but no entries will be accepted after October 3rd at 11:59 PM

WIN ROUND-TRIP
TICKETS TO
FRANKFURT
Thanks to our wonderful sponsor Lufthansa, every year we raffle off two round-trip tickets from RDU to Frankfurt, Germany. Last year, the proceeds from this raffle went to support our friends and neighbors in Western NC who were hit by the terrible hurricane and flooding. To enter you must find the tent and purchase raffle tickets ($10 each or 3 for $25). Be sure to purchase yours quickly because last year we sold out! We announce the winner on stage at 7:15PM on Saturday. Come to enjoy the festivities and you might just walk away with free flights to Germany!
MASSKRUGSTEMMEN
How long can you hold 32 ounces of beer in a heavy glass stein?
Last year's winner was able to hold their stein for 8 minutes and 47 seconds. The object of the competition is to not spill your beer, drop your arm, shake too much, or succumb to jeers of the crowd. Viel Glück!
-
Bring 2 beer tickets to the Beer Hoist table to enter the competition. Please be sure to watch the official stein hoisting video that demonstrates the rules and proper form.
There will be 2 competitions on Friday and 4 on Saturday to determine this year’s Stein Hoist Champion. Winners of each competition will receive a prize!
MR. & MRS. OKTOBERFEST
Ready to show off your traditional Oktoberfest attire?
We’re looking for the best dressed male and female wearing lederhosen and dirndl. The winner of the competition will be bestowed with the title of this year’s Mr & Mrs Oktoberfest!
-
Make your way to the stage around 6:30PM to prepare for the start of the competition. Everyone will have the chance to walk across the stage to be assessed by the judges and cheered on by the crowd.
-
Lederhosen, translated literally as “leather pants”, originated in Bavaria and were worn for hard physical work, as they were more durable than fabric garments. Traditional length of the pants were above the knee, to make them more durable for hunting, riding, and outdoor activities.
A dirndl is a feminine dress, translated as “young woman”, which originated in the German Alps, in the 1600s. It consists of a tight bodice, full skirt, linen puff sleeved blouse and apron. Traditional dirndls vary in design between regions and even villages, with details indicating the place of origin and social status of the wearer.
HAMMERSCHLAGEN
it’s hammer time!
Hammerschlagen, also known as "Stump" or "Nagelbalken" (German for "nail beam"), is a game where participants compete to drive nails into a large stump of wooden, often played at events like Oktoberfest. It’s an all-day activity that you and your group can play for fun. There are no prizes for winners, just bragging rights for winning this tradition!
-
The primary objective is to be the first to drive your nail completely into the wood, either flush with or below the surface. The game typically involves a cross-peen hammer or blacksmith's hammer and a large cross-section of soft hardwood. Each player gets a nail and takes turns swinging the hammer to drive their nail into the wood. Some variations allow players to try and drive down other players' nails. Players must use the wedge end of the hammer to strike the nail. Male players typically use one hand to swing, while female players may use both hands.

Want to make Oktoberfest unforgettable?
We’re always looking for volunteers to help us with a variety of tasks for the weekend. This could be ticket sales, food preparation, equipment set up, beer servers, help with the competitions and more.
